Kathleen Waltz, nee Kathleen Nolen, began ballet when she was eight years old. Her first ballet studio was Jane Powell Studio, owned by the actress of the same name. Kathleen continued her training under Norma Hamilton, Lila Zali, Michael Pannieff, Andre Tremaine and Anthony Sellars.
At the age of 12 years old she worked with Mr. George Balanchine for his west coast debut of the children's ballet "Circus Polka". She performed locally in civic companies such as Orange County Ballet and Ballet Pacifica.
She received a fulscholarship from San Francisco BalletSchool at 14 and two years later she received a fullscholarship with Joffrey Ballet School. She continued her pre-professional training under Sulamith Messerer and Vladimir Luppov.
Kathleen began her profesional career at the age of 17 with a guest performance at San Antonio Ballet in La Sylphide with Frank Augustyn and Mary Jago. She then received a contract from Nevada dance Theartre under the directorship of Vasili Sulich. The following season she danced with Boston Ballet and Rudolf Nureveyev in the production of La Sylphide performed at the Uris Theatre in New York. In 1980, she joined BaselBallet under Heinz Speorli and spent the next few seasons there untilretiring from injury.
Guest appearances have included numuerous regional ballet comapnies, U.S. and European commercials and televised ballets, and an appearance on the Merv Griffin Show. |
