The Vaganova technique originated in Russia in the 1950's and is currently the technique taught at the Bolshoi Ballet School and the Kirov Ballet Academy. This technique that has produced world-reknowned dancers such as Mikhael Baryshnikov, Rudolph Nureyev, and Natalia Makarova. Vaganova is the foremost technique in Russia.
Students interested in ballet levels 2 through 6 must audition and pass evaluation for class placement. Cclass sizes are limited, so not all classes may have available space for each student wanting to participate. Classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. . A waiting-list will be available for those students still interested in entering the program after enrollment has begun.
Ballet 1
Recommended for ages 5 and 6 years old. Beginning level. First year ballet introduces the student to basic positions, steps, terminology, and technique of russian ballet.
Ballet 5 New students must audition for placement
Recommended for ages 11 years old and up. Intermediate level. Minimum of 3 years previous ballet and one year pointe required at this level. Syllabus classes focus on perfecting technique while graduating the difficulty of barre and center work. Students at this level are required to take a minimum of 2 technique classes and one pointe class per week. Students may not attend pas de deux class unless they are enrolled in pointe class. Students must wear pointe shoes and sustain pointe work for the pas de deux class. Student must pass both bi-annual exams before progressing to the next level of class.
Recommended Attire:
Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, white 3/4" elastic band for waist, and pointe shoes.
Boys: White T-Shirt, black tights, white socks, white or black ballet shoes.
Ballet 6 New students must audition for placement
Recommended for ages 14 years old and up. Intermediate advanced level. Minimum of 5 years previous ballet and three years pointe required at this level. Syllabus classes focus on strength, agility, and perfection of technique, and full placement and use of head, arms and upper body. Students at this level are required to take a minimum of 3 technique classes and two pointe classes per week. Students must have had minimum one full year of beginning pas de deux before entering pas de deux class at this level.
Recommended Attire:
Girls: Black or dark colored leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, white 3/4" elastic band for waist, and pointe shoes.
Boys: White T-Shirt, black tights, white socks, white ballet or black shoes.
